Joyce, who had cataracts in both eyes, received the symbolic 10 millionth cataract operation supported by CBM

CBM has been supporting cataract operations worldwide since 1966. In autumn 2010, the 10 millionth of these procedures was carried out - a reason to celebrate!

From 1966 to 2010 - a success story

When CBM supported it's first cataract surgery, in 1966 in Afghanistan, nobody knew how much of a success story this would become. With this simple operation, the history of the organisation would be written. This year we will celebrate a special anniversary - the 10 millionth CBM cataract operation will be performed!

Life changing, yet quick and relatively inexpensive!

A cataract operation costs on average around US$25-30 ($800 for children with general anaesthesia) depending on whether it is performed in remote villages or in more accessible hospitals. Currency fluctuations also have an impact on operation costs.
