Kazol Rekha (centre), is a young woman living in a village in a flood-prone area of Bangladesh. Here, she talks about her role on a local DRR committee during a side event organised by CBM partner CDD Bangladesh.

June 2014 - CBM took part in the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) in Bangkok. The final outcome document includes positive references to disability, moving away from vulnerability towards active participation.

Momentum towards meaningful participation

From 22-26 June 2014 CBM, as part of the Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Network (DiDRRN), CBM took part in the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) in Bangkok.

As well as participating in discussions and debates, representatives (many from Disabled Persons' Organisations in the region) organised side events depicting the importance of disability inclusion in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

The conference declaration, released at the end of the week, includes reference to inclusion, disability and accessibility, in the context of ‘meaningful participation’ and ‘positive contribution’.
