Dr Nkumbe, an eye doctor from Cameroon, studied in Göttingen, Lausanne, Heidelberg and Nairobi. After being attached to the World Health Organization in Geneva as a scientist for a number of years, in October 2004 he began to work for CBM in Moshi, Tanzania.

After joining CBM, Henry attended the CEH MSc.Course at ICEH, London.

As an ophthalmologist, he has worked in Kenya, Tanzania and Madagascar.  As a medical student, he also worked in hospitals in Cameroon and Gabon.

Since October 2006, he has been in charge of an eye-health programme in Antsirabe, Madagascar. The aim of the project is to eliminate avoidable blindness in Madagascar by 2020 in keeping with VISION 2020.

Henry's work involves consulting and performing eye surgery as well as training eye doctors, eye nurses and refractionists in Madagascar. He also offers technical advice on blindness prevention to the project partner and the Ministry of Health of Madagascar as the need arises.
