Medina, from Ethiopia,had a successful trachoma operation on her right eye. Her left had already gone irreversibly blind due to this infection. Here, she is seen together with her child Duresso.

Country information

Ethiopia, one of Africa’s oldest independent states, is a landlocked country in East Africa whose neighbours are Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea. It is a peaceful country with a diverse culture and rich history.

Ethiopia has a population of more than 90 million people, of whom one in seven will be experiencing disability (see WHO World Report on Disability). Many people living with disability are faced with poverty.
