23 October 2010: Health officials are responding to a cholera outbreak in Haiti. Saint Marc, the area where the outbreak occured, is located 100 kms north of Port au Prince. CBM has no programmes in the affected area and is conducting prevention training with national and international staff.

At least 250 deaths and more than 3,000 cases of severe diarrhoea have been reported. The majority are from the area around St. Marc, about 100km north of the Haiti's capital, Port au Prince.

More than 1.3 million people are living in tented camps in Haiti, after the earthquake which struck the country in January 2010.

CBM will continue to monitor the situation and will make sure that any beneficiaries they come into contact with that are showing signs of cholera are immediately taken to hospital.
