The statistics speak for themselves. Over 100,000 children born annually with club foot can be successfully supported and their walking ability and hence mobility dramatically improved; an estimated 35 million hearing aids are needed annually for persons with a hearing impairment, and 17 million people are needlessly blind because they require a 15-minute cataract operation to restore their sight.
Together with partner organisations, CBM supports health care for existing disabilities and prevention of conditions which can lead to disability.
CBM seeks to improve access to health care, education and rehabilitation services for persons with visual, hearing, physical or psychosocial impairments. And CBM aims to mainstream disability into all aspects of development and empower persons with disabilities to take an active role in their communities through inclusion in development projects and involvement in community initiatives.
