CBM's work with persons with disabilities in developing countries is carried out together with over 700 local and national partner organisations in over 800 programmes. Partner-driven work helps to make CBM's work across the different mandate areas sustainable, because it is community-based and involves locally- trained staff.

Field work: some statistics

  • CBM works together with over 700 partner organisations. Approximately 50 per cent of these are faith-based organisations, with the rest made up of secular organisations or government agencies.
  • The majority of CBM partner programmes are located geographically in Africa and Asia, with a fairly large number in Central and Latin America and relatively few in Europe or classed as 'Inter-Regional'.
  • The majority of partner projects support health care services, with almost as many again providing education and rehabilitation services.
  • Community-based rehabilitation (CBR) services make up approximately one third of all health care services offered, and education a still higher number.
  • Of the health care services, eye care is still the largest group, with orthopaedic and ear services the next largest.
  • Education and rehabilitation services are offered, including not just CBR, but early intervention, inclusive education, vocational training and livelihood and training centres for teachers of specialised groups.
