Katharina Pförtner, CBM Coordinator of the CBM Advisory Working Group (AWG) in Inclusive Education, and Regional Adviser for Community-based Rehabilitation (CBR), supports CBR Projects in Nicaragua and Central America and advises the CBM offices in Mexico, Haiti and Ecuador in CBR. As member of the CBR Advisor Working Group and Coordinator of the Inclusive Education Advisor Working Group she supports the development of projects, alliances and strategies, especially on the topic of inclusive education in collaboration with other advisers on a global level.
Her main task is the planning and follow up on activities which promote inclusive education and in general inclusive development within the community.
Inclusive education is her special field, but she also specialises in the prevention of disability by early intervention and of violence, especially against women with disabilities.
Prior to this role, Katharina spent four years for CBM in El Salvador as a co-worker in CBR project and regional advisor.
She originally worked as a special education teacher in North Germany, specialising in psycho-motor activities and play therapy for children with behavioural problems, before volunteering in educational projects in Nicaragua.
