Tanja has been with CBM since 2002. She followed an MA in Political Science with a Diploma in Economics, after which she spent time with German Technical Assistance (GTZ) in Kenya, where she also assisted with a consultancy on microfinance credit schemes before starting work for CBM, managing projects in the Middle East.
As of 2007 she is heading CBM's Regional Office Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR). Her main objective is to develop programme strategies for countries in the region together with governmental stakeholders, advisors, partner organisations, and the Regional Office team.
The framework for intervention is defined by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) , the Millenium Development Goals as well as the CBR Guidelines of the World Health Organisation .

How does the Regional Office EMR work?
Tanja's brief is to implement high impact initiatives that support persons with disabilities in the region enjoying and being able to exercise their human rights.

- Networking, alliances
- Capacity building and training
- Pilot projects and programmes
- Evidence / research (Situation analysis, Impact assessment etc.)
- Policy development
To achieve our aims, the Regional Office works in partnership with local, national and regional governmental- and non-governmental stakeholders as well as organisations representing persons with disabilities.
The Regional Office EMR strives to intensify the dialogue with its partners and has established a Regional Advisory Committee to to pursue this objective.
Tanja says: “We want to invite the feedback and advice of our partners and incorporate their recommendations into our planning and decision making processes. We believe in professionalism, partnership, and diversity.”
