In May 2012, for the first time, CBM was involved in the EIDHR Forum. It participated together with three of its local partners to raise awareness about disability in the context of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
The forum brought together various civil society actors. Around 100 of the civil society actors present were partners from the South, working on different human rights issues.
Dr. Zaw Moe Aung, from the Leprosy Mission Myanmar (TLM), Mr. Nhip Thy from the Cambodian Development Mission for Disability (CDMD), and Mr. Fredrick Msigallah, from the Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation Tanzania (CCBRT) were representing the voice of the disability movement in the Forum.
Indeed, CBM, together with other European-based networks, is closely following the ongoing negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) to ensure that disability will be considered as one of the cross-cutting issues.
At this stage, disability is not part of the EIDHR strategy, nor is it part of the AAP 2013, but CBM will continue its advocacy efforts to raise awareness about disability as well as the outstanding importance of mentioning disability as a cross-cutting issue in the next MFF.
