University of Zambia (UNZA) organized the Special Needs Education Resource Centre ribbon cutting ceremony with the First Lady of Zambia

On 18 October 2017, the University of Zambia organized the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly built Special Needs Education Resource Centre. The construction, included in a wider special needs education intervention supported by CBM, HDL, LIONS and RTL.

The LIONS Representative (Mrs. Lafeld), the German Ambassador (Mr. Burkart), the Community Development and Social Welfare Minister (Mrs. Kabanshi), the First Lady (Mrs. Lungu), the UNZA Vice-Chancellor (Prof. Mumba).
On 18 October 2017, the University of Zambia organized the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly built Special Needs Education Resource Centre.
 
The construction, included in a wider special needs education intervention supported by LION'S Germany, HDL, RTL and CBM is an important infrastructure, which will contribute to step up the quality of Pre-primary and Primary School Education and the Rehabilitation/Early Intervention Services for children with disabilities in the Country.

It will further offer a qualitative space to provide Assessment Services for children with disabilities as well as an accessible teaching and learning environment for UNZA Students within the Special Needs Education course.

The results of a CBM commissioned situation analysis study on People with Disabilities in Zambia highlighted the situation of need regarding quality training for Special Needs Teachers in the country.  Moreover it highlighted the need for capacity building in the assessment of children with disabilities, assessment necessary to grant them access to mainstreaming and special schools.

The ribbon cutting ceremony were graced by the presence of The Zambia’s First Lady, Mrs. Lungu, by the Honorable Community Development and Social Welfare Minister, Mrs. Kabanshi, by the German Ambassador, Mr. Burkart, and by the representatives of HDL, Mr. Weyel, and LIONS, Mrs. Lafeld.

The CBM Regional Director, Mr Hahn, and a representative from CBM Germany, Mr. Andolfi, attended the event too, as well as many other dignitaries representing Government and academic offices and networking partnering organizations.”
