Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology (VNIO) held the 2012 Vietnam National Congress of Ophthalmology on 12-13 October 2012 in Hanoi, Vietnam. During this event, CBM was awarded a certificate of merit in eye care for its great contribution to the prevention of blindness in Vietnam.
CBM works recognised in Vietnam
The Vietnam National Congress of Ophthalmology was organised by Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology (VNIO) during 12-13 October 2012 in Hanoi, Vietnam. With over 600 participants from ophthalmology associations, provincial and international organisations nationwide participated in this event, to celebrate World Sight Day and sharing achievements of their works.
During the opening ceremony, CBM Vietnam Country Coordination Office was given a Certificate of Merit by Vietnam Ophthalmology Association for its great contribution to the prevention of blindness in Vietnam. On behalf of six International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs) working on eye care in Vietnam, Mr. Truong Duc Tung, CBM Country Representative for Vietnam, provided a presentation on activities, achievements and recommendations of INGOs to the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.
Significant contribution
In technical discussion groups, CBM partner in Nghe An shared a presentation on the model of inclusive community eye care programme supported by CBM. Another presentation on the results of Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) survey in Nghe An was also given in the discussion group. Dr. Dzung of VNIO provided a presentation on the research on quality of cataract surgeries in Thanh Hoa. This research was supported by CBM in early 2012 with the purpose of improving the surgery quality in the province. All those presentations show that CBM supported activities have significantly contributed to the mutual learning of the eye care community in Vietnam.
