Originally from Munich in Germany, Stefan works in Malawi with the National Identification and Referral of Persons with Disabilities project. This project is run by MACOHA (Malawi Council for the Handicapped), which is a governmental agency mandated to provide rehabilitation services to people with disabilities and to advocate the rights of persons with disabilities.

Stefan and his wife Sooki just recently took over the coordination of a Community Based Rehabilitation projects under the MACOHA programme. Stefan is also responsible for representing CBM in the National Prevention of Blindness Plan Steering Committee.

Stefan has been working for CBM since 2005. Prior to the assignment in Malawi, Stefan worked at CBM’s Regional Offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Manila, Philippines.

Before joining CBM Stefan worked as a free-lance consultant in development cooperation for the GTZ (German international cooperation enterprise) , European Commission and the ECO-Consulting Group in the fields of Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Quality Management.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
