Philippin, Dr Heiko

Project: Sabatia Eye Hospital
Dr. Heiko Philippin is working with the CBM partner organisation Sabatia Eye Hospital in western Kenya. As an eye doctor Heiko and his team perform a number of sight-saving surgeries at the hospital or through an outreach programme. More recently the Kenyan government had recognized the Sabatia Eye Hospital as a teaching hospital. That means that Heiko is now also responsible for training new local doctors.

Prior to joining CBM in 2006 Dr. Philippin worked at the University Eye Clinic in Freiburg, Germany.

Heiko lives in Kenya together with his wife Marenka.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
