A physiotherapist from the Netherlands, Michiel Steenbeek has lived and worked mainly in Africa since the late 1980s, and has been under a CBM contract since 1997.
His first assignment for CBM was at a home for children with physical disabilities in Uganda. He was also involved in setting up a nationwide network for comprehensive rehabilitation services.
After that he was based in Nairobi, Kenya. Working from there, he performed advisory assignments at physiotherapy and orthopaedic rehabilitation programmes in East Africa.
Since 2005, Michiel Steenbeek has been back in Kampala, where he is establishing a comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation programme.
