Project: Secretariat of the African Decade of People with Disabilities (SADPD)
The SADPD is a non profit organisation, based in Cape Town in South Africa, whose mission is to “empower governments, Disabled People's Organisations (DPO’s) and development organisations to work in partnership to include disability and persons with disabilities in policies and programmes in all sectors of society in Africa.” Judith represents CBM at the SADPD and through advocacy and lobbying initiatives she works towards including disability into poverty reduction strategies of different African countries.

Judith just recently relocated to South Africa. Prior to this assignment, she had worked in Tanzania for 12 years where she set up a Community Based Rehabilitation programme and co-founded the first and only school for occupational therapy in Tanzania.

Judith van der Veen trained as an Occupational Therapist and worked in the Netherlands and England before joining CBM. She also holds a Masters degree in Disability Studies.

Judith is married and has two sons who are 6 and 8 years old.
