Before joining CBM, the social worker from London worked in England and Sri Lanka.
In 1987, she went to India for a short time under her first CBM contract. From 1988 to March 1993, she then went to Indonesia, where she set up a successful Community Based Rehabilitation programme.
From June 1993 to the end of 2005, she lived and worked in Cambodia.
The main focus of her work was on developing and promoting medical and rehabilitation services in previously disadvantaged areas.
Since 2006, she has been working as an advisor in Hue, Viet Nam.
In 2001, she was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of her services.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
