Ort: Nigeria, Zing
Kampagne:Vision 2020
Informationen: The UMC Eye Centre Zing, owned by the United Methodist Church in Nigeria, is located near Jalingo in Taraba State bordering Cameroon. It has two eye wards, a well equipped outpatients department and an operating theatre. The area has one of the largest incidences of onchocerciasis in the world, and the number of adults, who are visually impaired, is very high. An eye nurse missionary, formerly of Evangelische Methodistische Kirche Germany, is supervising the project. Regrettably, discord is continuing in the project as well as the partner organisation made up of two opposing tribal groups. This has been further complicated by the death of the bishop, who passed away in August 2006. Therefore, it is still necessary to suspend active involvement until such a time as the conflicts are resolved. It is hoped that when the DO doctor in training returns to Zing (in April 2007 presuming he passes his exams), he will then be able to move the project forward again.
