What is Presbyacusis?

Presbyacusis describes progressive hearing loss in older people and can range from slight to severe hearing impairment.

What Causes Presbyacusis?

  • Most people over the age of 60 experience some degree of hearing loss as it is part of the aging process.

  • Reason: The nerve cells in the inner ear, responsible for converting sounds into nervous impulses, begin to degenerate as people get older.

  • It may be more common in males in the population because of associated occupational noise-induced hearing loss.

What Cures Presbyacusis?

The hearing loss is irreversible but when the degree of hearing loss makes it necessary, hearing aids and especially designed equipment can be of great benefit.
