1. PROGRAMME MANAGER / CBR COORDINATOR (m/f) - Kumi, Uganda

Duration: 4 years

Objective: Together with Kumi Hospital, Church of Uganda, reduce poverty as well as improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in a holistic approach and to prevent blindness and restore sight of mainly cataract patients

Reporting to the head of the project, the programme manager / coordinator needs to accomplish the following tasks:
  • Consolidation of present activities and development of new initiatives within a networking framework to identify, refer, treat, and operate people with disabilities
  • Coordination of the implementation of the activities planned among partners and different stakeholders, local health authorities
  • Target setting, monitoring and performance evaluation of programme staff as well as activities
  • Implementation of field visits to monitor the performances of the CBR workers and to identify areas of improvement
  • Facilitate staff training to improve performances
  • Regular visits to other CBR projects and to partner institutions to identify areas of improvement of services delivery
  • Implementation of annual performance appraisals for all staff members and revision of job descriptions if necessary
  • Collection and analysis of statistics from CBR and the eye project
  • Preparation of activity reports for funding agencies, local partner and other stakeholders
  • Supervision of programme finances and control of budget implementation, control of budget allocations to CBR projects and to the partner institutions as per valid agreements
  • General purchasing and supplying to the CBR and eye project
  • Development of management tools to ensure an ongoing transparent and measurable evaluation and monitoring of activities
  • Coordination and implementation of project visits in collaboration with cbm member associations and other relevant stakeholders
  • Identification and assessment of potential partner institutions willing to join the existing network for the provision of disability-reducing services and finalization of new agreement of collaboration with new partner institutions aiming to increase the number of beneficiaries of the services rendered
  • Preparation of a national successor as soon as possible
Special skills needed:
  • Proven track record with regard to project management in an African context
  • Proven track record with regard to human resource management knowledge and experience of community-based services
  • Familiarity with CBM mandates, especially in the fields of orthopaedics and medical eye-care
  • Fluent English
  • Valid driving license
  • Willingness to travel
  • Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists or Programme Managers with proven Medical Rehabilitation experience will be preferred
Professional Experience and Profile:
  • Relevant academic qualifications (i.e. international relations / political sciences, social sciences, public health, business management, physiotherapy, occupational therapy)
  • Excellent management skills
  • Intercultural competence and sensitivity
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Ability to motivate people
  • Team player and good communicator
  • Overseas experience in a developing country desirable
  • Excellent English language skills
  • A Christian that adheres to CBM beliefs and values
