What does CBM stand for?

CBM originally stood for Christoffel Blinden Mission, because our founder, Ernst Jakob Christoffel, made it his mission to make God's love manifest through a mission to care for the unsighted, regardless of nationality, gender or religion. In English, this became Christian Blind Mission. Now, the name has been changed to CBM to reflect the modern reality that CBM is a global organisation whose primary purpose is to improve the quality of life of all Persons with Disabilities who live in the most disadvantaged societies. CBM values and respects all people equally and advocates for the full inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in all aspects of society. CBM, working through partner organisations, believes that people with disabilities have the right to make their own decisions about their healthcare, education, and livelihoods, and seeks to enable our partners to increase and improve their services for people with disabilities, ultimately becoming self-sufficient in human and financial resources.
