The European Commission hosts the "European Development Days" on November 15th – 17th at the Heizel Stadium in Brussels. The conference deals with "Governance in Africa", with speakers such as Paul Wolfowitz (The World Bank) and the Nobel Prize Winner Desmond Tutu.

CBM has been involved through its liaison office in Brussels in the planning of the European Development Days and has made sure that disability has been put on the agenda. Shuaib Chalklen, the Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat for the African Decade of Disabled People will take part in a roundtable debate on vulnerable groups.

CBM will present its work with a booth and an exhibition called "Three minutes of blindness" hosted in the "Development Village", which holds exhibitions from governments and non governmental organisations. CBM’s "Three minutes of blindness"-exhibition gives the chance to have a short experience of what it is like to function with limited vision and which obstacles people with limited vision face. The walk through darkness will only take 3-5 minutes; participants will be given a white cane, and glasses which will simulate what it is like to have cataract. There will also be an opportunity to talk with CBM staff and discuss the work of CBM, blindness and disability in developing countries.
