Firozpur, Punjab, on the border flanking Pakistan, 130 kms west of Ludhiana. The eye department of a general hospital of the Church of North India under the management committee of Frances Newton Hospital, has a good reputation and benefits many poor patients. Due to its proximity to the border, the area remains backward and underserved. Trachoma is still endemic but no steps are being taken by the Government authorities to check or control the situation. Well planned surgical eye camps are conducted in rural areas. Services are essential. |
