Presbyterian Hospital Eye Service

« back
Project Name: Presbyterian Hospital Eye Service
Project Description: Eye Department
Location: India North, Aizawl (Mizoram)
Campaign:Vision 2020
Project Information: Aizawl, capital of Mizoram, in north east India. The project is part of the Presbyterian Hospital under the management of the Synod. We support only the eye department for comprehensive community eye care services. A remote and completely tribal area with predominantly (more than 95%) Christian population (Baptist originally). The population is entirely of mongolian origin. Due to local customs and traditions as well as food habits, which are distinct and very different to other parts of North India, people from other North Indian States find it very strange and inhospitable to work here. The general terrain of the catchment area is hilly to mountainous and the density of population is sparse. Total population of the entire state which covers an area of 21,087 Sq Km is just 891,058. For this reason, the annual surgical output is generally low as compared to other parts of India. However, the services are vital to the region.
