Project Description: Vocational Training Centre
Location: India North, Ludhiana (Punjab)
Project Information: Ludhiana, Punjab, about 110 kms from Chandigarh airport. Project consists of a middle school for blind children and a vocational training centre for the blind and physically disabled. It is under the management of the Board of Vocational Rehabilitation Training Centre. A highly industrialised city of small scale and cottage industries and ideally suited for placements of the handicapped in open employment. Every year, vocationally trained blind men and women are assisted in finding jobs in public and private sectors. Children are trained for self-employment. The Centre also provides counselling facilities for the handicapped in surrounding villages. It is recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
