Project Information: This extremely busy eye unit is located some 15 km from Nairobi and serves as a referral and training unit for Kenya and the region. Training programmes in collaboration with the University of Nairobi include postgraduate ophthalmologists, cataract surgeons, ophthalmic assistants, opticians, and theatre nurses. A strong outreach program provides cross border surgical safaris into Somalia. A retinal and occuloplastic specialist will be posted to this large referral unit in 2007.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
