Project Information: The large 175-bed referral ECWA Eye Hospital-Kano, providing nation-wide medical eye care services, is located in the second largest city of Nigeria in the north of the country. It has three consultants as well as two DO ophthalmologists on staff, one of which is pursuing the Fellowship course. The hospital has its own special programme that enables poor people to receive treatment at minimal costs. It is a training centre for the West Africa College of Surgeons Diploma in Ophthalmology. Doctors and resident staff are also training Fellowship students from Nigerian universities. Further, IOL training is being provided for ophthalmologists from Nigeria and other parts of the West Africa region. Primary Eye Care and ophthalmic theatre nurses courses are held annually. The hospital has a resource centre for medical eye care projects throughout the country and provides bio-medical services as well.
