Project Information: A separate eye unit was created within the general hospital of Mengo, which is located in the centre of Kampala city and has potential to serve a population of 2-3 million. A Ugandan ophthalmologist heads the program, and a CBM expatriate ophthalmologist will be posted to the program in late 2005. An urban Kampala CBR program will be initiated in mid 2006 of which one primary objective will be high volume referral of cataract patients to this unit.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
