for Blind / Visually Disabled

Location: Uganda, Soroti
Project Information: This program represents the only residential blind school in the country and is located in eastern Uganda, near the town of Soroti. Pre-school, primary and secondary education is provided and integrated education in normal primary / secondary schools have been initiated. The academic standards are very high with some students joining Makerere University. Teacher salaries are supported by Government. In June 2003, Lord Resistance Army rebels (LRA) attacked Soroti town and the school was forced to close, but was reopened in 2004.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
