Location: India North, Satbarwa (Jharkhand)
Project Information: Satbarwa, a small and remote township in the district of Palamu in Jharkhand, 145 kms from the airport at the State Capital, Ranchi. An EHA general hospital where CBM supports comprehensive community eye care services. Due to poor law and order situation in and around the area, outreach work is limited. The population of approx 500,000 is mostly tribal; however, due to its remote location it is a haven for criminals hiding from the law. Travel to this project, possible only by road from Ranchi, must be undertaken with due care and planning.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
