Project Information: AICB is a premier self-help Organization of the Blind in the country and is affiliated to the World Blind Union, the sole International voice of the blind. AICB was presented the best NGO National Award in the disability sector in 2006. Its computerized Braille press has been adjudged the best in the country by the Government of India and was presented a special National Award of Rs. one lakh.

AICB is made up of over 20 affiliates across the country and represents thousands of blind men and women. It has about 20 projects with over 100 employees with an annual budget of about Rs. Three crores.

AICB conducts a wide array of services prominent among these is:

• A State-of-the-art special school for blind children in a village in Gurgaon district
• The largest Braille printing press in the country
• A talking book studio-cum-cassette library for college-going blind students
• Vocational courses in stenography and IT applications
• Training courses for the newly blinded adults
• A hostel for college-going blind girls
• Merit Scholarships and computer-support for blind girls pursuing under graduate and post graduate courses across the country
• Rural rehabilitation programmes for the blind in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh
• Provision of interest free loans to blind persons for self-employment ventures in rural areas
• Pensions to the elderly blind persons
• Eye-care and eye-health services
• Braille equipment bank services
• Advocacy initiatives for visually impaired persons denied their due rights
• A number of Braille journals
• Research projects in the field of education and employment for the blind

CBM supports Partner in Concepción, Chile

Following the 8.8-magnitude earthquake with epicentre close to the Chilean city of Concepción and aftershocks, CBM will support its Partner in the region. CBM has one Partner Project in need of reconstruction, located in Concepción, the country's second largest city.
