Project Name: Christian Vocational Training Centre "Elim"
Project Description: CBR Programme / Service
for Multiple Disabled
People
Vocational Training Centre
Location: Nigeria, Igede
Project Information: The Christian Vocational Training Centre is a comprehensive, community based rehabilitation (CBR) programme covering a large rural area in Benue State in central Nigeria. About 300,000 people are living in the area. The project, in partnership with the Methodist Church, is managed by a committee involving representatives from all the protestant churches active in the area. Besides the CBR programme the project runs a well directed AIDS/HIV service and has made considerable efforts to establish income-generating projects. These include a bakery, a business centre, an optical shop and a carpentry shop. Services for people with disabilities include eye surgery, orthopaedic surgery, special education for both the hearing and visually impaired and an economic integration programme. An orthopaedic workshop is presently being developed. A support group, established in the Netherlands, provides most of the project's capital investment.
