Location: India North, Tura (Meghalaya)
Project Information: Tura in the remote West Garo Hills of Meghalaya. Approximately 8 hrs by road from Guwahati, which is the nearest airport. Helicopter services are available between Guwahati Tura during favourable weather conditions. A very remote, poor, under-developed backward tribal area. The project is managed by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel in India. CBM supports the school for the VI HI children under reverse integration after Class V within the school. The centre also has a training college for Special Educations teachers (HI VI) which is recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). CBM has provided the infrastructure for a vocational training centre with the school. In addition, CBM has provided a Vision Centre and a Prevention of Hearing Impairment Audiology and Speech Therapy Centre, which will not only benefit the local population of the West Garo hills, but also assist in the training of teachers.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
