Project Information: The Education and Rehabilitation Centre for low vision children LEWENJA is located in Lviv, Western Ukraine. The Centre, which is caring for about 175 visually impaired children aged 3-12, has been founded in 1996 as pilot project. LEWENJA is being operated as a day school and not a boarding school, as it is usually the case in the field of special education in the Ukraine. Besides kindergarden, pre-school and primary schooling, basic early intervention services, medical rehabilitation and integrated education are being offered by the centre, which is being operated by a very dedicated team. The development of the Centre has been supported by CBM throughout the last years in the fields of teacher training, renovation, special devices/ equipment/furniture etc. Since about 2004 the centre is moreover functioning as training centre in the field of blind education. It offers seminars and workshops for special padagogues from other schools throughout the Ukraine. Additionally, workshop for parents are being conducted. The respective workshops and seminars are financed by CBM. Moreover the centre has started publishing special literature and producing teaching videos in Ukrainian language. In 2005 CBM started in cooperation with Hilton-Perkins Programme supporting the establishment of a deafblind unit at the Centre. The centre has developed into a key player in the field of blind education and deaf-blindness in the Ukraine.

CBM active in post-emergency phase on the ground in Haiti

CBM supports Partner in Concepción, Chile

Following the 8.8-magnitude earthquake with epicentre close to the Chilean city of Concepción and aftershocks, CBM will support its Partner in the region. CBM has one Partner Project in need of reconstruction, located in Concepción, the country's second largest city.
