Project Description: CBR Programme / Service
for Multiple Disabled
Location: India North, Tura (meghalaya)
Project Information: Tura, Meghalaya, in a poor and remote tribal area of West Garo Hills bordering Bangladesh. It is about 8 hours by road from Guwahati which has an airport. Helicopter services are available between Guwahati Tura during favourable weather conditions. The project is run by the Bethany Society which is a Roman Catholic Society independent of the Church. The project works with the disabled and provides Special Education and CBR services. We support cross-disability CBR in the Districts of Rongram, Gambigre and Dalu through prevention, early intervention, educational and rehabilitation services. An orthopaedic workshop and physical therapy unit has been added in 2004 to cater for these otherwise not available services in the Garo Hills.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
