The Adventist International Eye Society of Mexico (AIES) started this prevention of blindness programme so as to make the state of Tabasco with a population of 2 million people, a zone free of treatable blindness. Most patients in Comalcalco come from a poor socio-economic background. Apart from consolidating this programme for low cost good quality eye care, cooperation with the University of Montemorelos with regard to a residency programme is taking place. Furthermore, affordable eye glasses are provided and for the future it is planned to start a low vision programme. |
