for Blind / Visually Disabled
Location: India North, Shillong (Meghalaya)
Project Information: Shillong, capital of Meghalaya in north east India about 105 kms from the nearest airport at Guwahati. Helicopter services are available between Guwahati Tura during favourable weather conditions. The project is run by the Bethany Society which is a Roman Catholic Society independent of the Church. The project is a School for blind children which has been functional since 1994 and attracts students from 4 of the 7 districts of Meghalaya. CBM support is being provided to expand existing facilities and capacity of the school and the vocational training centre and to upgrade the project for inclusive education.

CBM President Professor Allen Foster met with World Health Organisation Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, for the WHO's global initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” on the eve of World Sight Day 2007 at the WHO's headquarters.
