Services for People with Neuro-Psychiatric Impairments
The recent natural disasters in South and Southeast Asia reconfirmed CBM in its increasing commitment to mental health work. Many survivors are in need of neuro-psychiatric care, but the chances of gaining access to mental health services are very limited in the developing countries. CBM is therefore engaged in projects that extend help to people with neuro-psychiatric problems.
Goal: Reducing the Cases
Worldwide over 400 million people are impaired by psychosocial disabilities; a great many of these people can be helped. It is a medium-term goal of CBM to contain the prevailing neuro-psychiatric disorders which are:
Focus on Community-based Work
To achieve this goal, CBM promotes the inclusion of mental health work in community-based rehabilitation services; the work at a community level consists of a combination of the following:

- practical advice
- livelihood development
In Figures
CBM and its partner organisations provided education and rehabilitation services to a total of 508,103 clients in 2008. Education and rehabilitation services were provided by 515 CBM Partner projects.
