Since 2002, Christian Blind Mission (CBM) has Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC). The United Nations (UN) Council establishes consultative relations with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to achieve their involvement and to draw upon their special expertise or experience.

The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations is one of the five most important committees of UN. ECOSOC member states debate on economic and social problems; thus, ECOSOC can be compared with the UN's Security Council.

VISION 2020 and WWHearing

CBM was involved with WHO in initiating two international campaigns: VISION 2020 and WWHearing.

  • As a member of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and in cooperation with WHO, CBM has launched "VISION 2020: The Right to Sight". The goal of VISION 2020 is to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020.
  • WWHearing World Wide Hearing Care for Developing Countries is a new initiative created in 2003 to promote better hearing through the provision of hearing aids and services.
