1. CHILD PROTECTION OFFICER (f/m) - Bensheim

Duration: 2 years, as soon as possible

Objective: CBM has a Policy on Child protection and a Child Protection Unit (CPU), which is responsible to oversee its implementation at all levels of the organisation. The CPU’s major objectives are: (1) to raise awareness on the issue of child abuse, (2) to develop adequate tools and instruments for preventing such abuse from happening, (3) to propose a standardised approach on how staff and management should respond in cases of institutional abuse, and (4) to oversee the implementation of these instruments within CBM and within CBM funded partner organisations.

Reporting to the Vice President Programme and Partner Development, the Child Protection Officer needs to fulfil the following role and responsibilities:
  • Promoting the implementation of CBM’s Policy and Guidelines to protect children and vulnerable persons in institutional settings (phase I)
  • Conceiving and implementing a Community Inclusive Approach to Creating Safe Environments for Children and Other Vulnerable Persons with CBM Partners (phase II)
  • Ensuring a consultative process amongst different stakeholders of CBM
  • Raising awareness amongst CBM stakeholders and CBM Project Partners
  • Contributing toward building and maintaining a child safe environment within CBM and CBM’s Project Partners’ environment
  • Counselling CBM stakeholders and Project Partners on child protection issues
  • Facilitating the incident management of cases of alleged abuse or suspected protection concerns, if and when necessary
  • Ensuring sufficient in-house expertise
  • Establishing contacts, and network with other relevant national and international stakeholders
  • Sharing expertise and promoting child protection in the area of disability and development
  • Revising continuously the concept and strategic reorientation

Key activities will include:

  • Carrying-out international, national and regional workshops and trainings including training of trainers
  • Drafting concept papers and templates for internal and external use
  • Reporting continuously on the ongoing work including writing articles and informing the public on CBM’s Child Protection Activities
  • Revising Guidelines and training materials including foreign language versions (especially Spanish and French) and monitoring of pre-printing procedures
  • Implementing a system of international advisors (‘reference group’) including coordination and monitoring of international advisors’ body
  • Providing continuous advisory activity (to internal and external stakeholders as well as interested parties)
  • Ensuring knowledge management and regular exchange with experts
  • Providing regular, ongoing activities (monitoring, reporting, financial administration, correspondence, responding to inquiries and fulfilling administrative requirements)

Academic background

An appropriate academic degree with additional proven knowledge in international development, human and child rights topics is essential while proven knowledge in social management is an additional asset.

  • Proven management and administrative skills including project planning monitoring and evaluation
  • Full proficiency in English while knowledge of French, Spanish or other international language is desirable and an asset
  • A Christian, who adheres to CBM beliefs as well as values
Furthermore he /she should be able to:
  • generate a process of sharing of knowledge and expertise
  • ensure a consultative process amongst different CBM stakeholders
  • conceive a proposal for phase II activities and, once agreed
  • manage and coordinate their implementation in cooperation with CBM’s Member Associations and Project Partners
  • establish contacts, and network with other relevant national and international stakeholders
  • counsel CBM stakeholders and Project Partners on campaign related issues
  • revise regularly the unit’s concept and strategic orientation.
  • willing and able to travel internationally, as it is expected that 40% of the time are spent on overseas assignments and 60% on office work in the International Office
