Amigos de los Niños Excepcionales de Tarija (ANET) conducts a Special Education for the Blind and for the Deaf as well as Community Based Rehabilitation Programme (CBR) in the Bolivian provinces of Bermejo, Padcaya, El Puente, Yunchara, San Lorenzo and Cercado, all prioritizing a rights based approach. Surgery is also conducted on children and youth with disability.
The Ministry of Education and Culture provides support for teacher salaries, scholarships for food for shelters, school breakfast for students and 10 salaries for rehabilitation services. The Mayor supports with school breakfasts, covering cost of basic services of the educational centers and transport for CBR.
In year 2012, a total of 5.333 visual and hearing screenings were conducted benefiting 3.110 children with disability including : 1.507 visual and hearing impairment, 235 surgeries, 774 in education, 590 in rehabilitation and 4 in other areas.
Surgeries were conducted together with “Fundacion Esperanza” as follows: cleft lip (30), cleft palate (17), burns (4), Club foot (8), cataract (162) and others (14).
