The NGO 'Asociación de Padres y Amigos de Personas con Discapacidad' (ADISA) runs a Community Based Rehabilitation programme called 'Ak'ala en la Comunidad' located in Cantón Xechivoy close to the lake Atitlán in the district of Sololá, Guatemala. It started its activities for children with disabilities in this remote area in 1997.
Their four principal fields of work are: special education, medical assistance and physiotherapy, vocational training and job placement, and prevention and sensitisation. The programme helped 240 people in 2008.
