Lahan is approx 450 kms South East of Kathmandu on the highway of Terai between Janakpur Biratnagar Airports.

Sagarmatha Choudhary Eye Hospital (SCEH) in Lahan is a tertiary centre gradually built up over the past decades by co-worker Dr. Albrecht Hennig. It is an excellent example of high-volume good-quality eye care services for Eastern Nepal, North Western Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

It provides base and community services essential to the area as no other service provider available, and has developed to one of the biggest eye hospitals in the World.

As part of the sustainability strategy, the Eastern Region Eye Care Programme (EREC-P) has been developed with the setting up of Biratnagar Eye Hospital (BEH) in Biratnagar in 2006. In November 2011 Biratnagar Eye Hospital was officially inaugurated.

Biratnagar, the second largest city in Nepal, located 130 km east of Lahan, has a better infrastructure and will be more attractive for local ophthalmologists to stay on. The services will be further more extended to the Himalayas, and the both main hospitals will serve as a training centre for Nepali as well as CBM projects.
