- Early detection programme for hearing impairment
This programme is an early detection programme for hearing impairment based in Guatemala City for high risk new born children. It was started by the 'Comité Prociegos y Sordos' in 2001 and is the only programme of its kind in the country providing services to various maternity hospitals, with the intention to extend to major cities and surrounding communities.
High risk newborn children are evaluated and detected, cases are referred to Robles Hospital for more evaluations. There are plans to establish a temporal bone laboratory for the training of ENT Doctors in Central America.
