The NGO 'Programa de Rehabilitación Parálisis Cerebral (PREPACE)' runs a centre for children with cerebral palsy, initiated in 1986 by parents in Tegucigalpa whose children were suffering as there was no service available. Early stimulation, special education and physiotherapy are provided in the centre.
With the support of itinerant teachers PREPACE has established an integration programme in the public schools. In 2002 a Community Based Rehabilitation programme (PRINCES) was set up and was extended in the municipalities of Talanga, La Ermita and los Charcos.
At this current time, PREPACE is also supporting the leaders of the community of Maralé in setting up a new CBR programme. In 2008, 276 children were helped by the centre and 78 in the CBR programme.
