Before had this garden, I was just always at home but now I come and work. I give the vegetables to my brothers and they go and sell them and that brings in money to buy clothing for the family.
I am incredibly proud.

At a time when many people in Niger are struggling to feed their families, Oumou Moussa is providing for her community with a garden that she started with the help of an NGO.
And she's doing it despite her disability.

When I was twelve I got polio. After that I couldn't walk anymore. During times of a food crisis like the one that we are in now, it's the handicapped are often forgotten. Others can leave the village to go and find work. I can't leave on my own.

It's all thanks to Oumou that we benefit from the vegetables and a well. The whole village gets their drinking water from the well and we are able to water our own gardens with it. We no longer have to walk far to fetch water. The filter means it's clean.

Due to drought and poor harvests, a food crisis is looming in Niger. There are solutions. In a village just outside the capital, Niamey, Oumou Moussa is helping to feed her community with the produce from a garden that she started with the help of CBM.
