14 April 2013 - Dr Norval Christy, who was supported by CBM in his work in Pakistan and China in the 1970s and 1980s, died last week in the USA.

Dr Christy was a CBM Medical Adviser and, as part of CBM’s Medical Advisory Group, was instrumental in generating the CBM Medical Policy, which subsequently led to the World Health Organisation’s Global Initiative to eliminate avoidable blindness – 'VISION 2020 – the right to sight'.

In a career where he performed over 100,000 cataract operations, Dr Christy trained and mentored many people who followed in his footsteps, including Dr Albrecht Hennig, who subsequently worked for 30 years in Nepal. His example and work will live on in the lives of the many people he influenced with his humility, dedication and professionalism.
