International Disability Alliance

The International Disability Alliance (IDA) was established in 1999 as a network of global and, since 2007, regional disabled people’s organisations (DPOs). The aim of IDA is to promote the effective and full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) worldwide, as well as compliance with the CRPD within the UN system, through the active and coordinated involvement of representative organizations of persons with disabilities at the national, regional and international levels.

With member organisations around the world, IDA represents the estimated one billion people worldwide living with a disability. This is the world’s largest – and most frequently overlooked – minority group. IDA with its unique composition as a network of the foremost international disability rights organisations is the most authoritative representative voice of persons with disabilities and acknowledged as such by the United Nations system both in New York and Geneva.

Through IDDC, CBM works closely with IDA in global advocacy for inclusive development. CBM collaborates directly with IDA on CRPD compliant budgeting.
