CBM Work Recognised by Government of Ethiopia

Ethiopia is one of the 166 Countries which signed the UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities (UNCRPD) and ratified it in 2010. 

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA) is the ministry in charge of leading in the area of disability. Additionally, all other ministries are expected to take responsibility for mainstreaming disability into their respective areas of work. 

To increase advocacy work in Ethiopia, CBM has been working in close collaboration with MoLSA, as well as with the Federation of Ethiopian Associations of persons with disabilities (FEAPD). Last year CBM signed an MOU with MoLSA and FEAPD for the provision of financial support aimed at enhancing the development of the 2nd UNRCPD Report for Ethiopia.  

CBM is one of the leading NGOs in the area of disability in Ethiopia. We play an important role within the Disability INGOs Network (DINGO), established in 2016 and chaired, ever since, by CBM Ethiopia Country Director, Francesco Giulietti. Born thanks to the efforts of various international NGOs, the Network has been operating now for five years, meeting on regular basis and promoting coordination, information sharing, common advocacy actions and enhancing partnerships among members.  

DINGO is composed of international disability organisations, as well as other organisations having disability as cross-cutting area. Various initiatives and activities have been promoted since 2016 by DINGO in order to increase awareness of disability. The Network is also playing an important role in the  development of the Ethiopian Disability Act, currently under progress.
