Strong partnerships deliver inclusive services to 80 million people

CBM has published its annual report for our work in 2024, highlighting significant impact in our mission to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the world’s poorest regions. Despite global uncertainties and reductions in international aid, CBM reached over 80 million people across 37 countries through 330 projects, supported by private and institutional donors.

Strong partnerships for persons with disabilities: Public donors, together with CBM, supported 116 inclusive projects across 30 countries.

In 2024, CBM’s partnerships delivered impact at scale. More than 7.4 million people accessed eye care, including 218,000 life-changing surgeries – with cataracts accounting for the vast majority. Through our NTD programmes, over 70 million people received essential medication, protecting whole communities from blindness and disability. In times of crisis, CBM stood alongside those most at risk, reaching 718,000 people with emergency aid, cash transfers, food, and medical care.

Beyond immediate needs, we worked to strengthen inclusion: 1.09 million people took part in community-based development projects that opened opportunities in livelihoods, education, and social participation. At the same time, 159,000 people with physical disabilities received medical care, therapy, and assistive devices, helping them to live with dignity and independence.

Partnership and donor engagement

At CBM, we will always stand up for equality and inclusion for all – because only together can we tackle the urgent challenges of our time.

Dr. Rainer Brockhaus and Dr. Peter Schießl, CEOs of CBM

In 2024, CBM implemented 116 projects across 30 countries with public/institutional donor co-financing. Strategic partners included the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Federal Foreign Office, the European Union, and USAID. CBM also worked with local organisations of persons with disabilities to strengthen long-term, inclusive systems at the community level.

As Dr. Rainer Brockhaus and Dr. Peter Schießl, CEOs of CBM, emphasised:

“Reliable partners make a difference in challenging times.” They added: “At CBM, we will always stand up for equality and inclusion for all – because only together can we tackle the urgent challenges of our time.”

Outlook 2025

Looking ahead, CBM plans to expand humanitarian assistance in response to climate and conflict-driven crises. In 2025, we will also deepen collaboration with institutional donors in Germany and Europe, while exploring new opportunities in the United States.

“We will need this special community again in 2025 – especially as the United States and several European countries are significantly reducing their aid. In times of crisis, it’s up to all of us – humanitarian actors, partners, and communities – to stand with those most at risk.

Alongside humanitarian action, CBM will continue strengthening community-based development by working more closely with local organisations of persons with disabilities. This approach will ensure that inclusive systems take root and flourish where they are needed most.

Partnerships will be the key to making this vision a reality.
